Dare to Get Dirty Post #6

Today I'm sharing the last 10 cards I made for the Dare To Get Dirty Challenges over at Splitcoaststampers.

Challenge:  No Tools Allowed - Use your fingers
For my background, I rubbed Crackled Texture paste over a white panel, sprinkled it with Distress Glitter and let it dry. Then pressed the panel onto my craft mat where I had spread Distress Oxide inks that were spritzed with water. After drying that with my heat tool, I rubbed Distress Vintage Photo over the top with my finger to accent the crackle. I die cut the Hello 3 times and adhered it over the panel.

Challenge:  Be inspired by two Pinterest Boards (floral or Christmas)
I antiqued my Vintage Santa by stamping him in Potting Soil ink and then sponging around him with Ranger Distress Tea Dye and Old Paper Inks. I then flicked water from the palm of my hand onto the panel to get waterspots. I added a sticker sentiment and a little holly sprig cut from a larger sticker from K and Co. I used a Copic to give Santa his pink cheeks!

Sizzix Maker Challenge - Using Eileen Hull's Heartfelt House Pocket Die

Have you seen the Sizzix Maker Challenge?  You can find it HERE
There is a great prize for a lucky winner! (see end of my post) To join in on the challenge, you need to use Eileen Hull's Heartfelt House Pocket Stitchlits die.  You can also use the Stitchy Flowers & Leaf die and Birds & Butterflies die if you'd like to. But the main focus should be the House/Pocket Die.

I used the House Pocket die and also the Stitchy Flowers and Leaf die.  I made a patchwork home using the house pocket die and some of Tim Holtz' Textiles and I added flowers using the Stitchy Flowers and Leaf Die.  I layered it all onto a 6" x 8" burlap panel.

A home has always been an important place for me.  I lived in the same house growing up until I got married and my parents continued to live there the rest of their lives.  I have since lived in one apartment and two houses but I always make where ever I live mine by decorating with things I love.
I die cut all the pieces out of the cloth and then cut them out of Grunge Board and glued the cloth to the board to add firmness and dimension to the individual pieces.
I colored two square Idea-ology Fragments with Butterscotch and Sunshine Yellow Alcohol Inks for the glass in the windows.  I just glued the fabric window cuts over the glass.  I added an Idea-ology Hitch Fastener for the doorknob.
I cut several Stitched Flowers out of Core-dinations paper and layered them together using
Idea-ology Hex Fasteners.  I added some Idea-ology Big Chat Stickers and Letter Press letters
Here you can see the dimension on the windows and door (I added foam tape behind the door) - the roof is also raised above the house base.
(I cut a separate roof portion of the house die so I could layer it).
I love my little house!  and I'll display it in my big house!

Here is the prize, which includes Eileen's fabulous Journal die:
You can see more details of the challenge here:
and you can enter your photo of your project here:

Playing with Stencils

Today I'm playing with layering stencils.
I layered my stencils on a tag and after finishing it, I cut it into 2 pieces and so was able to make 2 cards!
The first uses a smaller piece and is framed by a stamp.  This is a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" card.
 Close up
My 2nd card uses a larger piece of the finished tag and is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".
 Close up of the stenciling
Here are photos of the steps I used in creating my layered stencils
First I used white acrylic paint through one of Tim's mini stencils pouncing the ink on with a sponge applicator on a blending tool.
Be sure to wash your stencil and sponge immediately after use.
then I layered a mini leaf stencil over the words using Distress Dried Marigold ink
I layered a mini grid stencil over the tag using Crushed Olive Distress Ink
I sponged over the edges with Ground Espresso Distress ink
and I sponged over the whole tag with Seedless Preserves and Scattered Straw.  I used a baby wipe over the acrylic paint to remove any ink laying on top of that stenciling.
then I stamped over the stenciling with Archival Jet Black Ink.
I flicked water onto the tag to create water spots.
Here's the fun stamp set I used

I'm linking my cards to:

CAS Mix Up Challenge - August Mid Month Reminder - Alcohol Inks

I'm here today to play again with Alcohol Inks!  and to remind everyone that there's still time to join in on the CAS Mix Up Challenge - Last day to link up is August 24th!
So for this card I used stamps, alcohol inks (AI) on Yupo paper, die cuts, sequins and embossing on the sentiment!
There are links to several You Tube Videos on ways to use AI's over on the CAS Mix Up blog - for this card I used this video for my technique:
Inlaid Die Cutting with Alcohol Inks by Catherine Pooler

Here's a close up of the lovely effect of the AI's on Yupo.
First I dabbed Butterscotch and Wild Plum AI's over a sheet of Yupo using a felt pad with the applicator handle.  Then I added Alcohol Blending Solution to the felt and dabbed again to blend it better and to get these lovely bubbles!
I die cut a portion of the Dandelion Fluff in the circle and removed it from the circle.  I die cut the full flower from black card and layered it inside the circle.  I put tape on the back to hold the piece in.
I embossed the sentiment on a strip of card using Silver Pearl Embossing powder.
And I just had to use the negative of the die cut to make a 2nd card - where the circle is black and the inlaid die cut flower is the AI piece.
So please join us over at the CAS Mix Up Challenge and show us how you use Alcohol Inks!
(use of alcohol ink markers like Copics are allowed too!)
You'll find lots of DT inspiration, the rules of the challenge and Mr. Linky here.  You have until 8/24!
